These terms are used for interpretation of this website, other people may use other terms.
Bobtail Also known as an engine only, is a running engine. Includes fuel system (EFI or Carburation), alternator, starter, flywheel, flywheel housing, engine mounts, and power steering (as each model dictates). Ready to drop in and run, does not include y-pipes, transom assembly, transmission, or drive.
Complete engine package Also known as complete engine and drive assemblies. This is a running motor as described above in the bobtail section with a transmission or transom assembly and outdrive. This is the package a boat manufacture uses to drop into their bare boat.
Transmission Also known as a Gear, is a bolt on mechanical devise that gives the ability to shift forward, backward or to remain in neutral. Sold as individual items or in packaged assemblies.
Sterndrive Also known as an Outdrive, is a devise similar to a transmission that bolts on to the exterior transom of a boat to gives the ability to shift forward, backward or to remain in neutral. Sold as individual items or in packaged assemblies.
